Prototypes

I basically based my model off Monster High dolls. I bought one, pulled her all apart, realized she didn't have all the movable joints I wanted so bought another. Interestingly the second doll I bought was of much worse quality and was literally coming apart at the seams, but that was ok, I didn't need the doll to be perfect for the kit bashing process.

I made some basic salt dough (AKA homemade play dough) to mess around with and made some of her limbs to scale. I was planning to make a full model of her out of this but I already had an idea of what they would look and feel like at this size and was keen to get cracking into a less rudimentary clay.

First attempt at Sculpey, with help getting started from Tanya. Made her little face to be really cute and half bat-like, wit big eyes and her little bat nose. Loosely based her profile on the latest My Little Pony designs for that really cute, big forehead look.

Getting started on the kit bash was a bit of a challenge but I definitely rose to it. Didn't have a clamp to I had to improvise but it was all good fun. I used to get given Barbies as a kid but I didn't really play with them conventionally. The poor dolls were subjected to some alterations akin to something Sid from Toy Story might do. So this was all a nice nostalgic trip for me.
